Sacred Heart Church

Our Vision:

The Life Teen Religious Education Program at Sacred Heart Parish is dedicated in helping the young Church of today to capture,
in a fuller and richer sense,
the call of Christ.

For Whom
Authentic Christian adults and committed, caring young people come together as teachers, advocates, and enablers so that we can begin to minister to the growing youth numbers within our parish faith community.

The Eucharist
The Life Teen Program focuses upon our Catholic identity with the celebration of Eucharist as the central core to our faith.  The liturgy will be celebrated on the first Sunday of each month introducing a theme, and setting the tone for the upcoming religious education classes and sharing sessions throughout the month.  Each Mass will require the involvement of youth planning, preparation and participation.  Families and parishioners are invited to attend the 5:OOPM Mass and are encouraged to set this time aside each month with the youth of Sacred Heart Parish.

Leadership
The vision of the Life Teen Program will also involve the structuring of leadership core groups among our high school and young adults, enabling ongoing peer ministry to develop within and outside of the parish community.

The Program
The Life Teen Program will offer retreats, conferences, social events and activities, fellowship nights, training seminars, service projects and more to draw young people into responsible participation in the life, mission and work of our faith community.

OUR GOALS ARE:

A strong youth ministry is multi-dimensional because young people are multi-dimensional.  Therefore, it is essential that we worship, pray, play, provide opportunities to serve those in need, provide guidance and healing, develop leadership and create a sense of community among young people.

Our ministry with youth should not be limited to those teens who have a history of church involvement but also draw in young people who are struggling with their relationship with God and or have not even started to develop that relationship.  Our goal in the Life Teen Program is to evangelize our youth within the parish while creating an opportunity of evangelization for the whole family system.  Evangelization begins by reaching out with the invitation to come and see and by bridging the active role of ministerial catechesis with living faith in action and practice.

The Life Teen Program will also invite our youth to reflect upon Christ's teachings within the area of sacred scripture, sacrament, and Church doctrine while providing a forum to connect Christ's teachings in light of their own lived experiences.

The development of the core leadership groups and peer ministry within the Life Teen Program for the purpose of reflecting and connecting are important goals to work toward.

Parental Involvement:

Parents, we strongly recommend your involvement in our youth ministry program.  Your teenager may say they do not want you involved with anything they are doing, but we have noted over and over that parental involvement is the key to "keeping in touch" with your teen and their world.  This is not to suggest that you need to be present at all youth functions, but as you become involved, you and your teen can work out a frequency that is good for both of you.  It is important that all parents realize that without their presence we cannot offer a quality program that will build faith in young people today.

Parents are being asked to volunteer for only one month out of the school year.  During this month you may be called to assist in activities and events scheduled for our youth.  (Enclosed is a parent participation calendar for the 1996-97 Life Teen Religious Education school year.  Please print your name, address, and phone number on one of the months from September to May, as well as your teen's name and grade in school.  Below the calendar is a short survey, Mark the areas you prefer to volunteer your time.)  If you have any special interests or talents that you may offer in assisting the CCE Staff, feel free to note them (at the bottom of the calendar.)
