NEXT MEETING
We
are going to be introduced to the special needs of our Fort Bend children -
children who need that extra help, care and attention to pull them up to a
basic level at least. Many have the
ability, but no one has given them the interest, the time or the right
direction. Come and hear Mary Grady talk
about the needs of mentoring our local children. She is the Executive Director of the Fort
Bend Partnership for Youth. The talk
will start at 7:30 pm, and the regular meeting will follow. Supper will be served from 7, in the CCE
building. Anyone who needs a name tag,
please come to this meeting and give your name to Brother Tom Petrosewicz.
SITUATIONS VACANT
Historian
Charitable
organization needs a keeper of its interesting memories. These include pictures, articles, menus,
tickets, certificates. You do not have
to be a book-binder, cinematographer, or journalist, but if you can stick and
keep, you can get this job for free.
Please apply to the Council Director at 342-9096 for further details.
The Holder of the Data
Are
you interested in people, and their lives, their records (non-criminal), and
their dates (not current affairs)? You might just be in line for a detailed,
digital destiny. If you know a database
language as well, you are well on your way to becoming the center of the
Universe. Apply to that same old hat of
a Council Director who is looking for the above-mentioned history buff. We want just the facts man, just the facts,
on a computer.
Photographer
Anyone
with a camera? Please offer yourself to
be the official preserver of occasions, events and people, happy, solemn and
festive incidents of our council’s history.
Get your pictures into the Herald Coaster, the Texas Knight, and our
archives. We need someone to be where
the action is and record it for posterity.
Please call the same old same-old as above, 342-9096.
INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS
It
is interesting to see an old year end, and a new year begin. This is what the Knights of Columbus do every
July. We lose the old officers, and
swear the new officers in. Luckily many
of the faces keep looking the same. On
Sunday, July 19th, at 11o’clock, in the Sacred Heart Chapel, your
new regime was installed. This entailed
a very detailed specification of the expectations from every officer, and his
acceptance to do the best for the Council and for the whole organization, for
his family and for the community. Your
new officers have promised to run this council in a good and efficient manner,
to do their best for the Columbian movement and for their fellow knights. This promise was made before God, and before
their families. This gave a great
feeling of fraternity, fellowship and family involvement, and an expectation of
very successful service by their devoted support. We belong to a great national
movement and we will do our part to help it in its quest for Charity, Unity,
Fraternity and Patriotism. The outgoing
District Deputy, Johnny Jedlicka, conducted the ancient ritual, and the new
District Deputy, Bob Yur, gave the blessing of the Chaplain. Thank you Johnny for your years of service to this area’s
community of knights and your help and constant attention to our Council, and
welcome Bob to a long and happy association.
After
the ceremonies, an officers’ family luncheon was held at La Cocina. Our departing Grand Knight, Glenn Nohavitza
(now to be known as Worthy Past Grand Knight) thanked all those who had served
for the past year. He paid a special
tribute to the past Warden, Bryan “Bubba” Meyer, who has been in charge of
every barbecue, been there for the Fish Fry, the Breakfast with Santa,
organized Christmas on Morton Street, and sat up all night with his briskets
and ribs, and sold a record number for the Fathers’ Day Brisket Sale, and kept
us well refreshed at all our various meetings.
Bryan was named the Knight of the Year, and presented with a
commemorative clock.
